The GATE 2027 Registration Last Date without a late fee is 27 September 2026, and at the time of writing (24 September 2026) that leaves only 3 days on the GOAPS portal. After that, IIT Madras keeps the form open until 5 October 2026, but every application submitted in that extended period costs ₹500 more.

GATE 2027 Late Fee: What You Pay After the Regular Last Date
The GATE 2027 late fee is a flat ₹500 on top of the regular fee, for every category. It is charged once per application, not once per paper, so a candidate taking 2 papers also pays ₹500 extra in total, not ₹1,000.
| Category | Papers | Fee till 27 Sep 2026 | Fee till 5 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Female / SC / ST / PwD | 1 paper | ₹1,000 | ₹1,500 |
| Female / SC / ST / PwD | 2 papers | ₹2,000 | ₹2,500 |
| All others (incl. foreign nationals) | 1 paper | ₹2,000 | ₹2,500 |
| All others (incl. foreign nationals) | 2 papers | ₹4,000 | ₹4,500 |
For a Female, SC, ST or PwD candidate with 1 paper, missing the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date means paying 50% more. That is a big jump for a single week’s delay, and it is the easiest ₹500 you can save this season.
OBC-NCL and EWS candidates pay the same fee as the general category in GATE. There is no separate concession for them at the registration stage.
Documents Required Before the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date
Keep these GATE 2027 documents ready as files on your laptop before you start, since most late submissions happen because 1 scan or certificate was missing on the last day.
- DigiLocker account: mandatory for Indian nationals. GOAPS pulls your name, date of birth, address and a verified ID from your Aadhaar-linked record. Do not delete this account after you apply.
- Photograph: JPEG or JPG, 5 KB to 600 KB, between 200 x 260 px and 530 x 690 px, recent, with a plain light background.
- Signature: JPEG or JPG, 3 KB to 300 KB, between 250 x 80 px and 580 x 180 px, signed in dark ink on white paper.
- Valid photo ID: Aadhaar, passport, PAN card, voter ID or driving licence. You must carry the same original ID to the exam centre.
- Qualifying degree proof: your degree or provisional certificate if you have graduated, or a bonafide or enrolment certificate if you are still studying.
- Category certificate (SC/ST): PDF, only if you are claiming the reduced fee.
- PwD or UDID certificate: PDF, only if you are claiming a fee concession, scribe or extra time. A dyslexic certificate is needed for that specific support.
- Payment method: net banking, UPI, or a debit or credit card with enough limit for your fee.
Category and PwD certificates are the 2 items you cannot arrange overnight. If yours is still pending with a government office, apply in the general fee slab before the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date rather than waiting and losing the regular window.
Why You Should Not Wait Until the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date
Every year, GOAPS slows down in the last 48 hours before the regular deadline. Pages take longer to load, DigiLocker verification times out, and some payments stay pending for hours before they are confirmed. If your payment is not confirmed before the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date, your form is not treated as submitted in the regular window.
A second common problem that makes candidates miss the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date is a name mismatch. If the spelling on your Aadhaar-linked DigiLocker record is different from your degree certificate, you need time to sort it out. Finding this on the final evening usually pushes candidates into the late fee period.
Finally, the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date is also your last chance to fix some details cheaply. Changes to certain fields, such as the paper or exam city, may carry extra charges during the correction window in October, so getting them right now saves money later.
A 45-Minute Plan to Apply Before the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date
If you have not started yet, you can still complete the form well before the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date in 1 sitting. Here is the order that works best.
- Spend 10 minutes checking your photo and signature sizes with any free resizer, and save them with clear file names.
- Open gate2027.iitm.ac.in, go to GOAPS, and register with your email ID and mobile number. Note your Enrollment ID and password in a safe place.
- Link and verify your DigiLocker account. Check that the name and date of birth it pulls in match your degree documents.
- Fill in your qualifying degree details, and choose your paper or 2-paper combination.
- Pick your exam cities in order of preference. Choose options you can actually reach on an exam weekend in February.
- Upload your photo, signature, ID proof and any category or PwD certificate.
- Preview the full form, fix any typing errors, and pay the fee online.
- Download the submitted form PDF and the payment receipt, and keep both until your result is out.
If step 3 or step 7 fails, do not register again with a new email. GATE does not allow duplicate forms from the same person, so log back in to the same account and try again after some time.
Missed Both Deadlines? What Happens After 5 October
Once the extended window closes on 5 October 2026, GOAPS stops accepting new applications. There is no provision to register for GATE 2027 after this date, even with a higher fee, and the correction window from 14 to 21 October is only for candidates who have already applied.
So treat 5 October as the absolute final GATE 2027 Registration Last Date, and 27 September as the sensible one. If you miss both, your next chance is GATE 2028.
Already Submitted Your Form? Here Is What Comes Next
If you applied before the GATE 2027 Registration Last Date, your form now goes through scrutiny by the zonal GATE office. Log in to GOAPS every few days and check your status. If it shows Defective, you can fix the issue during the correction window, from 14 to 21 October 2026.
Your admit card will be available on 4 January 2027, but only for applications marked complete. Meanwhile, use this time for preparation.
