The best free GATE ECE Mock Test is the one the organising IIT itself releases, because it runs in the exact TCS iON window you will use on exam day. This page brings together 8 official EC mocks, year-wise from 2017 to 2026, with a short note on what each year is good for and a plan to finish all of them before February 2027.
The official GATE 2027 ECE Mock Test from IIT Madras is not released yet. It has its own Releasing soon row in the table below, and we will add the link the day it goes live.
Quick facts: all links are free and need no login, each mock follows the GATE pattern of 65 questions, 100 marks and 3 hours, and the official mock pages state that answers are not evaluated and no score card is generated. You check your own marks, as explained below.
GATE ECE Mock Test Links Year-Wise (2017 to 2026)
Every GATE ECE Mock Test link opens the official mock of the EC paper (Electronics and Communication Engineering) in a new tab. Use a laptop or desktop, not a phone, so your practice screen matches the exam hall.
| Year | Organising institute | GATE ECE Mock Test link |
|---|---|---|
| 2027 | IIT Madras | Releasing soon |
| 2026 | IIT Guwahati | Attempt 2026 EC mock |
| 2025 | IIT Roorkee | Attempt 2025 EC mock |
| 2022 | IIT Kharagpur | Attempt 2022 EC mock |
| 2021 | IIT Bombay | Attempt 2021 EC mock |
| 2020 | IIT Delhi | Attempt 2020 EC mock |
| 2019 | IIT Madras | Attempt 2019 EC mock |
| 2018 | IIT Guwahati | Attempt 2018 EC mock |
| 2017 | IIT Roorkee | Attempt 2017 EC mock |
The 2026 and 2025 links come directly from the official GATE 2026 mock test page of IIT Guwahati and the official GATE 2025 mock test page of IIT Roorkee. Older official sites no longer list their links, so the 2017 to 2022 mocks come from links shared when those exams ran.
The 2023 and 2024 GATE ECE Mock Test links are missing because their official pages no longer show the links. If a link does not open in 1 browser, try another before you skip it.
Year-Wise Guide: What Each GATE ECE Mock Test Is Good For
All 8 mocks open in the same kind of exam window, but they were built in different years under slightly different rules. Knowing this tells you what each GATE ECE Mock Test can and cannot train.
GATE ECE Mock Test 2026 (IIT Guwahati)
This is the newest window you can practise in today, and the closest match to what IIT Madras is likely to use. Save it for January. It was released for the year when the EC General cutoff was 26.4, the highest of the last 3 years.
GATE ECE Mock Test 2025 (IIT Roorkee)
Treat this GATE ECE Mock Test as your second-last full rehearsal. The 2025 exam had a General cutoff of 25, and about 81,000 EC candidates appeared, so it reflects the modern size and pattern of the paper.
GATE ECE Mock Test 2022 (IIT Kharagpur)
A good middle test. It was built for an exam with all 3 question types (MCQ, MSQ and NAT), so use it to check whether you lose marks by missing 1 option in an MSQ, where no partial marks are given.
GATE ECE Mock Test 2021 (IIT Bombay)
2021 was the first GATE with multiple select questions. Use this mock as your first real MSQ practice, and count how many MSQs you got fully right.
GATE ECE Mock Tests 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017
These 4 older mocks were built for exams with only MCQs and NATs. They are perfect for learning the window, the palette and the virtual calculator without pressure, but a high score on them can hide weak MSQ skills. Take them first, in November.
3-Round GATE ECE Mock Test Plan: 8 Mocks Plus GATE 2027
With 8 past mocks and about 13 weeks before the exam, take 1 full GATE ECE Mock Test every 2nd Sunday in November and December, and use the free week in between to fix the sections it exposed. In January, move to 1 mock every Sunday. That rhythm stops you from taking test after test without learning from them.
Round 1, November and December (interface and speed): take the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 mocks on 8 November, 22 November, 6 December and 20 December. Your only goal is to finish all 65 questions in 180 minutes and stop being slow with the virtual calculator.
Round 2, early January (accuracy and MSQs): take the 2021 and 2022 mocks on 3 January and 10 January. Keep wrong MCQ guesses under 4 per paper, since each one costs 1/3 or 2/3 of a mark.
Round 3, January (exam rehearsal): take the 2025 mock on 17 January and the 2026 mock on 24 January, both at your real GATE session time. Then take the official GATE 2027 ECE Mock Test within 2 days of its release, even on a weekday, and switch to light revision after it.
Your weekday study should follow our GATE ECE 2027 4 months preparation strategy, so these mocks test what you have already covered.
After Each GATE ECE Mock Test: Check Your Marks Section by Section
Because the official mocks give no score card, note your answers on a rough sheet and add up your marks yourself: full marks for each right answer, minus 1/3 for a wrong 1-mark MCQ and 2/3 for a wrong 2-mark MCQ. MSQ and NAT mistakes cost nothing. Our GATE 2027 exam pattern and marking scheme guide explains each rule.
Then split your GATE ECE Mock Test score by section and compare it with the marks each section usually carries in GATE EC:
| Section | Usual marks | If you lose marks here |
|---|---|---|
| General Aptitude | 15 (fixed) | Revise ratio, data reading and verbal grammar first |
| Networks, Signals and Systems | 13 to 19 | Practise Laplace, Fourier and z-transform numericals |
| Communications | 10 to 14 | Redo modulation, noise and information theory problems |
| Engineering Mathematics | 9 to 14 | Drill probability, linear algebra and complex numbers |
| Analog Circuits | 8 to 13 | Rework diode, BJT, MOSFET and op-amp circuits |
| Electronic Devices | 7 to 12 | Revise PN junction and MOSFET formulas |
| Control Systems | 7 to 10 | Practise Bode plots, root locus and steady-state error |
| Digital Circuits | 7 to 9 | Solve K-map, counter and combinational logic questions |
| Electromagnetics | 6 to 11 | Revise transmission lines and Maxwell equations |
The usual marks are estimates from recent papers, taken from our most scoring subject for GATE ECE 2027 analysis. A section where you score far below its usual share is the 1 to fix in the week before your next mock, using the matching file in our GATE ECE notes.
If General Aptitude keeps pulling your total down, our free General Aptitude notes PDF covers all 4 GA areas with a practice set.
2027 Topics No Old GATE ECE Mock Test Can Check
IIT Madras revised the EC syllabus for 2027, so every past GATE ECE Mock Test misses a few topics you must now prepare. Practise these separately, because no mock from 2017 to 2026 will warn you about them:
| New in 2027 | Section | How to practise it |
|---|---|---|
| FIR and IIR filter design | Networks, Signals and Systems | Window method and bilinear transform numericals |
| PID controller | Control Systems | Effect of P, I and D action on error and overshoot |
| Scaling in MOSFETs | Electronic Devices | How delay and power change with the scaling factor |
| Dominant-pole (Miller) compensation | Analog Circuits | Phase margin questions using Bode plots |
| Source coding | Communications | Huffman and Shannon-Fano code length and efficiency |
| Correlation and regression | Engineering Mathematics | Short NAT-style statistics problems |
The reverse also applies: an old mock may ask about discrete-time processing of continuous-time signals or first order nonlinear differential equations, which the 2027 syllabus no longer lists. Solve them in the mock, but do not spend revision time on them. The full list of changes is in our GATE ECE syllabus 2027 guide.
What Score in a GATE ECE Mock Test Is Good Enough?
The General qualifying mark in GATE EC was 25 in 2024, 25 in 2025 and 26.4 in 2026, while the topper scored 95.67 in 2026. Our GATE ECE previous year cutoff analysis has the full category-wise numbers.
So a GATE ECE Mock Test score of 30 only tells you that you would probably qualify. For a rank that opens IIT M.Tech or PSU interviews, aim for about 35 in Round 1, 45 in Round 2 and 55 or more in Round 3. These are our planning targets, not official figures, and the trend across your 8 mocks matters more than any single score.
Exam-Window Skills to Practise in Every GATE ECE Mock Test
ECE papers are heavy on numericals, so the exam window itself can cost you marks if you are not used to it. Build these habits in each GATE ECE Mock Test:
- Virtual calculator speed: practise log, decibel, exponential and square-root steps on the on-screen calculator, since no physical calculator is allowed.
- NAT entry: type numerical answers with the on-screen keypad and read the question again for the unit and the number of decimal places it asks for.
- Save before you move: an answer is stored only when you click Save and Next, or Mark for Review and Next with an option selected.
- Review flags count: an answer that is saved and marked for review is still evaluated, so clear any wrong guess you do not want counted.
When Will the GATE 2027 ECE Mock Test Be Released?
No release date has been announced by IIT Madras so far. In past years, the official mock links for all papers were posted on the organising institute website a few weeks before the exam. GATE 2027 is on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027, so check the official GATE 2027 website through December and January. The day it is out, we will add the GATE 2027 ECE Mock Test link to the Releasing soon row above.
Preparing for the CS paper as well? Our free GATE CSE mock test series lists the CS mocks in the same official window.
FAQs on GATE ECE Mock Test
Where can I take a free GATE ECE Mock Test?
This page lists 8 official EC mocks from 2017 to 2026, released by the organising IITs. Each one opens in the real GATE exam window with no login or payment.
Is the GATE 2027 ECE Mock Test released?
Not yet, and no release date has been announced. In past years the official mock links came out a few weeks before the exam, and we will add the 2027 link to this page the day it is live.
Does a GATE ECE Mock Test give a score card?
No. The official mock pages state that mock answers are not evaluated and no score card is generated. Note your answers and add up your marks with the GATE marking rules.
How many GATE ECE mock tests should I take?
Take all 8 official mocks plus the GATE 2027 mock, about 1 every 2 weeks until December and 1 every week in January. Spend as much time reviewing each mock as taking it.
Do old GATE ECE mocks cover the 2027 syllabus?
Mostly, but not fully. New 2027 topics such as FIR and IIR filter design, the PID controller, MOSFET scaling and source coding are not in any past mock, so practise them separately.
What is a good GATE ECE Mock Test score?
The General cutoff was 26.4 in GATE EC 2026, so a mock score around 30 means you would likely qualify. For a strong rank, aim for 55 or more by January. These targets are our own, not official figures.
Why are the 2023 and 2024 EC mocks missing?
The official GATE 2023 and GATE 2024 websites no longer show their mock links, so they cannot be opened from a verified source. The other 8 years give you more than enough practice.
