IIT Madras has extended the GATE 2027 Rectification Window again. The new last date is Tuesday, 3 November 2026, in place of Saturday, 31 October. The official popup and Important Dates page both show the window as 14 October to 3 November 2026.
The GATE 2027 Rectification Window is only for candidates whose forms were marked defective during scrutiny, and fixing a defect in it still costs nothing. If you got a defect email or SMS from your zone and have not acted yet, use these extra 3 days to log in to GOAPS and submit the fix. The helpdesk is open again on Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 November.

This is the 2nd extension. The closing date first moved from 21 October to 31 October, as covered in our post on the first rectification window extension, and has now moved to 3 November. Do not wait for a 3rd extension; none has been announced, and scrutiny has to finish before the city allotment notice on 4 January 2027.
Step 1: Check Your GOAPS Status in 2 Minutes
Log in to the GOAPS portal through DigiLocker and look at the status line on your dashboard. The official notice lists 3 main statuses, and only 1 of them needs action in the GATE 2027 Rectification Window:

Step 2: Fix Application Defects Before the GATE 2027 Rectification Window Closes
Your defect email names the exact problem, and the GATE 2027 Rectification Window lets you fix it more than once if the first try is not accepted. Below are the defects most candidates are fixing in the last days of the GATE 2027 Rectification Window, with what the official FAQs say about each.
Photo or Signature Defect
The zone marks the form defective and asks you to upload a new photograph or signature image. Take a fresh photo in daylight against a plain light wall, with your face clearly visible. Sign in dark ink on plain white paper and crop tightly around the signature. Upload, submit, and confirm that the status changes to Defect Rectification Done.
Photo ID Number Does Not Match the Uploaded ID
A common case in the official FAQs is uploading an Aadhaar card but typing the PAN number, or the other way round. You can fix it in either of 2 ways: upload the ID that matches the number you entered, or correct the ID Number field so it matches the uploaded card.
Photo ID Missing the Back Side
In the GATE 2027 Rectification Window, the new upload must show your photo, name, date of birth and ID number. If these details are split across the front and back of the card, both sides must be in 1 single PDF. A front-only scan of such an ID can lead to a fresh defect email.
Photo ID Defect for Unverified DigiLocker Users
If you applied with an unverified DigiLocker account, give GATE 2027 consent to your DigiLocker Drive, then upload your photo ID as PHOTOID.pdf inside a folder named GATE2027, with a size between 10 KB and 600 KB. Name Spelling or Marriage Name Defect
A name spelling is not a quick fix in the GATE 2027 Rectification Window. The official FAQs say it cannot be edited freely, but it can be corrected later with supporting documents. If your photo ID shows your name before marriage, upload it with an affidavit and carry the same affidavit to the exam hall.
GATE 2027 Rectification Window Fees: What You Pay and What You Do Not
This is where many candidates get confused, because GOAPS has 2 different windows with 2 different fee rules: the free GATE 2027 Rectification Window and the paid correction window.
- Fixing a defect flagged by your zone: free. The official notice says the GATE 2027 Rectification Window works without any additional fee, so ignore any message asking you to pay for it.
- Changing a detail by your own choice: this needs the paid Data Correction Window, which is listed as TBA on the official Important Dates page.
- Withdrawing your application: the official FAQs say the application fee is not refunded.
IIT Madras has not yet published the fee for the Data Correction Window on its live pages. Earlier in this cycle, the official fee page carried the list of charges below, per paper. Use it only as a guide until the correction notice is out:

The extra ₹1,000 in the last row is the gap between the lower and higher application fee groups. So the GATE 2027 Rectification Window is not the place to change your paper or city; wait for the paid window for that.

If no defect email came and your status is Accepted, you do not need the GATE 2027 Rectification Window at all.
Stuck With a Defect? Contact Your Zone Before 3 November
The IIT Madras helpdesk at 044-22578200 answers application queries only on government working days, Monday to Friday, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The extension gives you 2 more call slots: Monday 2 November and Tuesday 3 November, the final day of the GATE 2027 Rectification Window. There are no helpdesk hours over the weekend of 31 October and 1 November, so email your zone if you are stuck before then.
For a defect that will not clear before the GATE 2027 Rectification Window ends, email the zone that flagged it. Put your enrollment ID and paper code in the subject line, paste the defect remark, and attach screenshots or a short screen recording of your attempt. These are the zonal email IDs:

Phone numbers for every zone are on the official GATE 2027 contact page. Even if the reply comes after 3 November, an email sent before the deadline gives you a record that you tried to fix the defect in time.
What Happens After the GATE 2027 Rectification Window Closes?
Once the GATE 2027 Rectification Window shuts, your zone checks the last round of fixes. As per the official FAQs, a form whose defect is still open after the deadline is treated as provisional or rejected. A rejected form means no admit card, and the fee is not refunded.
After that, the schedule moves to the paid Data Correction Window (TBA), then the city allotment notice on 4 January 2027, then the admit card (TBA). The exams are on 6 to 7, 13 to 14 and 20 to 21 February 2027. What is the new last date of the GATE 2027 Rectification Window?
The window now closes on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. It opened on 14 October and has been extended twice, first from 21 October to 31 October and then to 3 November.
Is there a fee to fix defects in the GATE 2027 Rectification Window?
No. Defects flagged by your zone are fixed free of cost. Only the separate Data Correction Window, whose dates are TBA, charges a fee.
Can I change my GATE 2027 paper or exam city in the rectification window?
