We checked all 13 GATE Civil Engineering Notes links on 01 November 2026, and each one opens a working PDF. The files total about 613 MB, and Engineering Mathematics is the largest at about 97 MB, so use Wi-Fi for the full set.

The Hydrology file looks short, but each of its 46 pages is a scan of 2 notebook pages side by side, so it really holds about 92 pages on rainfall, drought, rain gauges and flood estimation. Zoom in on your phone to read it. Some listings call this file Hydrology and Irrigation, but irrigation is covered in its own separate file.

Which GATE Civil Notes Give the Most Marks per Page?

Not every set of GATE Civil Notes pays back your reading time equally. The table below divides each section’s average marks from 2019 to 2025 by the pages of GATE Civil Engineering Notes for that section. The averages come from our analysis of the highest scoring subjects for GATE Civil exam in 2027.

SectionNotes filesPagesAverage marksMarks per 100 pages
Transportation EngineeringTransportation988.28.4
Geotechnical EngineeringGeotechnical18314.98.1
Geomatics EngineeringSurveying1126.86.1
Engineering MathematicsMathematics27012.44.6
Environmental EngineeringEnvironmental2399.94.1
Water Resources EngineeringFluid Mechanics, Hydrology, Irrigation34413.13.8
Structural EngineeringMechanics, Solid Mechanics, Structural Analysis, RCC, Steel69717.42.5

2 lessons stand out. First, Geotechnical and Transportation notes are short but carry many marks, so finish them early for quick gains. Second, Structural Engineering still carries the most marks overall, but it has 697 pages of notes. Read those GATE Civil Engineering Notes steadily over many weeks rather than in a rush at the end.

Use the table as a guide, not a rule. Marks change from year to year, and the 2027 paper moves Construction Materials and Management into its own section, which may shift some marks away from Structural Engineering.

GATE Civil Engineering Notes vs the 2027 Syllabus: Pages You Can Skim

The GATE 2027 CE syllabus drops some older topics that these GATE Civil Engineering Notes still teach. If you find these chapters in your GATE Civil Engineering Notes, skim them once instead of studying them in depth:

  • Noise pollution (Environmental Engineering notes): this file has a full chapter on noise, but noise pollution is not part of the current CE syllabus.
  • Horizontal, vertical and transition curves (Surveying notes): curves are no longer listed under Geomatics. Keep these pages for Transportation, though, because highway alignment design still uses them.
  • Prestressed concrete (RCC notes) and plate girders (Steel notes): both are no longer named in the 2027 syllabus.
  • Remote sensing and GIS (Surveying notes): replaced by cartography, map projections and digital photogrammetry.
  • Dynamic pile formulae (Geotechnical notes) and free vibration of single-degree-of-freedom systems (Mechanics notes): neither is named anymore.

Skimming these pages of your GATE Civil Engineering Notes frees up study time, which you can spend on the new topics below.

New 2027 Topics to Add to Your GATE Civil Notes

We compared the official GATE 2026 and GATE 2027 CE syllabus PDFs line by line. These topics are new in 2027, and the GATE Civil Engineering Notes were written before them, so add a few pages of your own to the right file:

Add to this notes fileNew 2027 topics
Structural AnalysisCastigliano’s second theorem
RCCDetailing of isolated footings
GeotechnicalSheet piles, ground improvement techniques
Fluid Mechanics and HydrologyMobile channels, rapidly varied flow, surface runoff models
IrrigationEarthen dams, seepage through dams, river training structures, well irrigation
EnvironmentalBasics of landfill design and operation
TransportationFour-step travel demand modelling: trip generation, trip distribution, mode choice, traffic assignment
SurveyingGNSS surveying, cartography, map projections, digital photogrammetry, camera calibration

Most of these are short topics, so they will not add much bulk to your GATE Civil Engineering Notes. 2 to 4 pages of your own notes on each, followed by a few practice questions, is usually enough to answer a GATE question on them.

The Missing Section: Construction Materials and Management

The biggest gap in these GATE Civil Notes is Section 8 of the 2027 syllabus, Construction Materials and Management. No file is dedicated to it, although the RCC notes have pages on fresh concrete properties such as workability and the slump test, and the Steel Structures notes open with the composition of steel.

Make a short notebook of your own to sit beside the GATE Civil Engineering Notes for the rest of the section:

  • Materials: cement composition and hydration, chemical and mineral admixtures, concrete mix design, and short-term and long-term properties of concrete.
  • Estimation and costing: long wall and short wall method, centre line method and analysis of rates.
  • Project planning: AOA and AON networks, PERT and CPM, and project updating.
  • Equipment and contracts: equipment for earthwork, concreting and hoisting, and the types of contracts.

PERT and CPM questions follow fixed steps, so they become quick marks once you have practised 10 to 15 previous year questions.

How to Study From Handwritten GATE Civil Engineering Notes

  1. Read 1 chapter, then solve its PYQs the same day. Handwritten GATE Civil Notes are full of solved numericals, so they work best right before practice.
  2. Make a 1-page summary for every chapter. Write the formulas and IS code values on it, such as the partial safety factors in RCC and steel design. These pages become your revision set for January.
  3. Mark skipped and new topics in the file itself. Use a PDF reader to highlight the pages you skimmed and add a note where a new 2027 topic fits.
  4. Keep General Aptitude separate. No file in these GATE Civil Notes covers it, so use our free GATE General Aptitude notes PDF for those 15 marks.

To turn these GATE Civil Engineering Notes into a week-by-week schedule, follow our GATE Civil 2027 4-month study plan. To set a safe mock test target, check the GATE Civil previous year cutoff trend, where the General cutoff stayed between 28.3 and 29.2 from 2024 to 2026.

FAQs on GATE Civil Engineering Notes

Where can I download free GATE Civil Engineering Notes for 2027?

All 13 subject files are listed in the table on this page. Each Download PDF link opens a handwritten PDF on Google Drive, free and without sign-up.

Which subjects are covered in these GATE Civil Notes?

The set covers Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Structural Analysis, RCC, Steel Structures, Geotechnical, Fluid Mechanics, Hydrology, Irrigation, Environmental, Transportation and Surveying.

Are these GATE Civil Engineering Notes updated for the 2027 syllabus?

They were written for the older syllabus. Skim pages on noise pollution, prestressed concrete, plate girders and remote sensing, and add new topics like earthen dams, sheet piles and travel demand modelling.

Do the GATE Civil Notes cover Construction Materials and Management?

Only a little. The RCC notes cover fresh concrete properties and the Steel notes cover steel composition, but estimation, PERT and CPM, equipment and contracts need your own notes.

Which GATE Civil Engineering Notes should I read first?

Start with Geotechnical and Transportation notes, which give the most marks per page, then move to Structural Engineering, which carries the most marks overall.

How many pages are in the GATE Civil Engineering Notes?

The 13 files have about 2,000 handwritten pages and take about 613 MB. The Hydrology file has 46 scanned pages that each show 2 notebook pages.

Do these GATE Civil Notes include General Aptitude?

No. General Aptitude is common to all GATE papers and carries 15 marks, so use separate GA notes and previous year questions for it.

Are handwritten GATE Civil Engineering Notes enough to crack GATE 2027?

They cover most of the syllabus, but pair them with previous year questions, mock tests and your own notes for the new 2027 topics and Construction Materials and Management.
